The Wondering

2024: new cycle of work with Central Saint Martins, UAL, funded by Essex County Council, delivered in two strands:

The Wondering was led by Sarah Cole and Mia Taylor, with Verity-Jane Keefe (April)

The Wondering brought ten students, from the BA Fine Art and MA Art & Science courses at CSM, to Jaywick on a week-long residency. The visit included a talk by the Environment Agency and a workshop led by local artists Jane Stewart. The students all used their time in the town to develop their own responses, taking on board concerns about ecology (of people and place), using the beach, Jaywick Martello Tower, the Never Say Die pub, the community shop, and the new Sunspot to explore local histories, narratives and networks. Some students also delivered workshops with the Creative Network and Inclusion Ventures, and participated in the new Feel Good Choir and Jaywick Walking Group.

These images reveal some of the students outcomes and research, with the possibility for developing the work next year.
