EXHIBITION:  SHIFT HAPPENS

Phoenix Arts Space, 1 - 18 September 2023

Cole & Joslin presented work for the Community Takeover, A Seat at the Table.

SHIFT HAPPENS reflected on the process of making art as a way to think through personal experience, made in collaboration with Brighton Women's Centre. Funded by an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant.

Our progress was logged here on an A-N Blog.

ONGOING WORK:

The Change,   2022 1 min 15 secs

Cole & Joslin, single screen video, with music by Felix Laband (Falling Off a Horse). Utilising the early film The Kiss in the Tunnel (1899) by George Albert Smith, courtesy of Screen Archive South East. This video is an experiment in working with archive film footage, green screen and dance.

VIDEO: LAZY

This Cole & Joslin video was made with dancer Clea Godsill and  Yael Flexer's Acting Our Age dance group, filmed at South East Dance, FuseBox and in a field near Brighton. LAZY explores the narrative of a LazyBoy chair, based on an audio recording by a woman describing the role of this furniture within the history of her abusive marriage. Early footage was tested during a Show & Tell at FuseBox in September 2022 and we finally blew up the chair, with the generous support and expertise of Mike Sansom. Supported by CSM Research. LAZY was exhibited as part of SHIFT HAPPENS, September 2023.
